Your privacy
Last updated 1 November 2026
Adala is an open-source, volunteer-run map of water injustice in Canada. You can look at the map, cases and gallery without an account. This page explains what we keep if you do make one, and how to have it removed.
What we collect
- Your account. Your email address and name, and a securely hashed password if you choose one. If you sign in with Google, Google shares your name, email and profile picture with us. We never see your Google password.
- Things you choose to add. Your profile, case reports, messages in the community, requests to join, and the maps you make. Your own maps stay private unless you share one to the gallery.
- Your location, only if you allow it. Location is used in your browser to centre the map and show what's nearby. It is never sent to us or saved to your account.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or share your information with advertisers.
- We don't use tracking or advertising cookies.
- Your email address is never shown to other members.
Who can see what
Cases on the map, member profiles and maps shared to the gallery are public. Community messages are visible to approved members. Case reports and join requests are visible to you and to the volunteers who run Adala (stewards). Stewards review reports before anything appears on the map.
Services we use
Accounts and data are stored with Supabase. The website is hosted by Cloudflare. Address search uses OpenStreetMap services (Photon and Nominatim), and map images come from OpenStreetMap and Esri. When you search for an address, the words you type are sent to those search services to find matches.
Removing your information
You can delete your own maps and messages at any time. To delete your whole account and everything linked to it, email info@adalaproject.org from the address you signed up with, and we'll remove it within 30 days.
